A-level Results Day 2027

A-level results day 2027 is Thursday 12 August 2027. That's the date JCQ, which coordinates the main exam boards, has set for A-level and Extended Project results to reach students. Schools and colleges see them a day early, on 11 August, but only so they can get ready. Scottish results come first, on Tuesday 10 August 2027.

It's a long way off if you've just started Year 13, and that's a good thing. The more you know now about how the day works, the calmer it feels when it arrives. This page covers the dates, what happens inside your UCAS application, and a plan for every outcome.

When is A-level results day 2027?

Here are the confirmed dates for summer 2027, with 2026 alongside so you can see how the calendar shifts each year.

A couple of things to know about these dates:

• They come from the exam bodies, not UCAS. At the time of writing, UCAS's own 2027 key-dates timeline doesn't list results days yet. JCQ's key dates document and Qualifications Scotland's website are where the 2027 dates are published.
• Northern Ireland and Wales. JCQ's document covers AQA, OCR, Pearson and WJEC. It tells centres entering students for CCEA qualifications to check CCEA's own key dates, and points WJEC centres to the WJEC website too. If you sit CCEA or WJEC exams, ask your school to confirm.
• Scotland has a new exam body. The SQA was replaced by Qualifications Scotland on 1 February 2026. Our Scottish results day guide explains how Scottish results work with UCAS.

What time do A-level results come out in 2027?

UCAS hasn't published its 2027 results-day times yet. It usually does this nearer the summer. Until then, the 2026 timings are the best guide to how the morning runs:

These are 2026 values. Treat them as a pattern, not a promise, and check UCAS's dates and deadlines page in the summer of 2027.

In 2026 there was also an embargo in the days before results. From 08:00 on 7 August until 08:00 on results day, applications weren't updated and universities couldn't discuss individual decisions. Expect something similar in 2027, so don't worry if your application goes quiet for a week.

Your grades themselves come from your school or college, not from UCAS. Some schools email them, some use an online portal and some ask you to come in. Ask your tutor how it will work before you break up for summer.

What happens in UCAS on results day?

Most A-level results are sent to UCAS and your chosen universities automatically. Universities usually get them before you do, which is why your UCAS application can show a decision before you've opened your results envelope.

When you log in, you'll see a status that tells you where you stand. The main ones UCAS describes are:

The five-day rule matters. If a university offers you a changed course, you have to reply in your application within five days or the offer goes. Take a breath, ask questions, but don't sit on it.

I met my offer. What now?

Well done. If your application says you've been placed at your firm choice, your place is confirmed and there's nothing else you have to do in UCAS. The university will email you about enrolment, accommodation and welcome week over the next few days.

Two quick checks:

1. Read any subject conditions. Some offers ask for a set grade in a named subject, not just an overall set of grades. If the university has confirmed you, you're fine, but it's worth knowing.

I missed my offer. What should I do?

First, don't panic. Missing an offer happens to lots of students every year, and there's a clear set of steps.

1. Check your application. Your firm university may still take you. Universities sometimes confirm students who narrowly miss.
2. Look at your insurance choice. If your firm says no, your insurance choice is considered next. That's exactly why you picked it. Our guide to firm and insurance choices explains how the two work together.
3. If you're eligible for Clearing, use it. Clearing for 2027 entry opens on 2 July 2027 and the last date to add a Clearing choice is 18 October 2027. Phone universities with your Clearing number and Personal ID, and only add a Clearing choice once one has agreed to take you. Adding it counts as accepting the offer.

I did better than expected. Can I change university?

Yes, but think carefully first. UCAS Adjustment, the old scheme that let you "trade up" safely, was removed for 2022 entry and hasn't come back. The route now is "Decline my place", a button in your UCAS application that releases you into Clearing.

It comes with a big catch: it can't be undone, and you lose your insurance place too. UCAS advises securing a new place first. So only use it once another university has told you it will take you. Our guide to why Adjustment ended and how Decline my place works explains the full process.

How do I work out my UCAS points on results day?

Once you have your grades, it takes a few seconds to turn them into Tariff points. Each A-level grade has a fixed value:

The quickest way is to put your real grades into the A-level UCAS points calculator. If you took an EPQ, add it too, because its results come out on the same day. You'll need your total if you're looking at Clearing courses, since many list their entry requirements in UCAS points. What can I do now to get ready for results day 2027?

Results day is almost a year away, but a few things you do this autumn and winter make it easier:

• Send your application on time. For 2027 entry, the main equal consideration date is 18:00 on 13 January 2027, or 18:00 on 15 October 2026 for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and vet courses. See our UCAS deadlines guide for 2027 entry.
• Choose a sensible insurance choice. An insurance offer lower than your firm gives you a real safety net in August.
• Reply to your offers by your reply date. Miss it and your offers are declined by default.
• Know your offer grades by heart. Write them down with your predicted points total, so you can compare them with your results in seconds on the day.
