A-level Exam Dates and Timetables 2027

By The UCAS Points Calculator editorial teamReviewed by Dr. Lila Sharma, UK Education Policy Specialist Updated 6 October 2026 Checked against the official UCAS Tariff

A-level exams in 2027 start on Monday 10 May 2027 with AQA, OCR, Pearson Edexcel and WJEC/Eduqas. Most boards finish on Friday 18 June 2027, while Pearson Edexcel's last A-level papers are on Monday 21 June. Wednesday 23 June is the contingency day, and results day is Thursday 12 August 2027.

Every board has published its final timetable for summer 2027, so you can plan around these dates with confidence. Your school will still give you a personal timetable, and that's the one to stick on your wall. If you're new to how A-levels are assessed, our A-levels explained guide covers the basics first.

When do A-level exams start and finish in 2027?

A-level papers are timetabled in common exam slots agreed by all the boards through the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ). That's why the same subject usually sits on the same day whichever board you take. Here's the exam window for each board.

A few details sit behind those dates:

  • Some assessments start earlier. AQA's window for language speaking tests runs from 19 April to 28 May 2027. CCEA's visiting exams for music, modern languages and performing arts also begin on Monday 19 April. Your teachers book those slots with you.
  • CCEA starts with practicals. AS Chemistry's practical exam is on Friday 30 April, and the A2 Chemistry and Physics practicals follow on 6 and 7 May. CCEA's A2 written papers begin on Monday 17 May.
  • Pearson's very last slot is Tuesday 22 June, for the Advanced Extension Award in maths. That's a separate maths award, not an A-level paper.

Are the 2027 A-level timetables final or provisional?

They're final. AQA's PDF is the confirmed timetable it first published in April 2026, and Pearson, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas and CCEA all label their documents "final". OCR's version shows any changes since its provisional timetable in red, which is handy if your school printed an early copy.

Final doesn't mean frozen, though. AQA's PDF is already on version 1.2 after two small changes to A-level PE coursework and moderation dates, so print the latest copy.

Thanks to the common timetable, AQA, OCR and Pearson Edexcel put most big subjects in the same slots. In the table, "am" means the morning session and "pm" the afternoon session. Specification codes are in brackets so you can match them to your own exam entries.

Some notes so the table doesn't trip you up:

  • OCR History uses unit groups. The thematic study (unit group 3) is on 19 May, the British period study (unit group 1) on 26 May and the non-British period study (unit group 2) on 14 June.
  • Two papers, not three. AQA English Literature and AQA History have two exam papers plus non-exam assessment. OCR English Literature also has just two timetabled papers.
  • AQA Business is a "final sitting". AQA labels its 2027 A-level Business (7132) papers that way. If you might want to resit AQA Business in a later year, talk to your teacher now.
  • No Edexcel Sociology. Sociology isn't on Pearson's 2027 GCE timetable, so it only appears here for AQA and OCR.

When are the Further Maths exams in 2027?

Further Maths doesn't follow one shared pattern. Each board sets its own dates for the core papers as well as the optional ones.

What are the WJEC, Eduqas and CCEA exam dates?

WJEC and Eduqas share one final timetable. Their A level exams run from Monday 10 May (Eduqas Economics Component 1) to Friday 18 June (Eduqas Biology Component 3). In the PDF, Wales subjects are blue, Eduqas subjects orange and A level papers sit in yellow boxes.

CCEA in Northern Ireland uses its own A2 unit codes. Here are the A2 dates for common subjects:

Is there a contingency day for A-levels in 2027?

Yes. The boards have set aside the morning and afternoon of Wednesday 23 June 2027 as contingency sessions. They'd only use them if national or significant local disruption stopped exams running as planned, so in a normal year nothing happens that day.

The catch is that you need to stay free until then. AQA, OCR and WJEC all tell schools to remind students that they must remain available until 23 June 2027, in case a board has to put its contingency plan into action. CCEA lists the same date.

What time do A-level exams start?

The published start times for AQA, OCR and Pearson Edexcel are 9.00am for morning papers and 1.30pm for afternoon papers. Schools can shift a start within a set window without asking the board. OCR and Pearson allow morning exams to begin between 8.30am and 9.30am and afternoon exams between 1.00pm and 2.00pm. AQA lets schools start up to 30 minutes earlier or later than the published time.

CCEA's normal start times are a little different: 9.15am for the morning and 1.30pm for the afternoon.

If you have two exams in the same session, you'll sit them one after the other. AQA says your school may give a supervised break between them, and OCR allows one of no more than 20 minutes. Check your personal timetable early for clashes.

When is A-level results day 2027?

A-level results day 2027 is Thursday 12 August 2027. AQA sends results to schools and colleges electronically on Wednesday 11 August, and CCEA issues results to candidates on the Thursday too. Our A-level results day 2027 guide covers what your UCAS application shows that morning and what to do in every situation.

If you're applying to university this year, your predicted grades are an estimate of how these exams will go. If you're holding a conditional offer, the grades you get in May and June are what decide it. A few ways to use that:

  • Know your target. Put your predicted grades into the predicted grades UCAS points calculator, then compare the total with what your offers ask for. Each A-level grade has a fixed Tariff value, from 56 points for an A* down to 16 for an E.
  • Keep an eye on UCAS dates. Make sure your reply date doesn't sneak up on you mid-revision. Our UCAS deadlines guide lists them for 2027 entry.
  • Plan for the subject your offer names. If an offer asks for a set grade in one subject, find that subject's papers in the tables above and make sure your revision peaks then.
  • Know your plan B. Read what to do if you miss your grades now, so none of it is new to you in August.

How should you plan revision around the 2027 timetable?

A timetable gets far more useful once you've marked up your own copy. Try this:

  1. Highlight your papers. Use the spec codes above to make sure you're reading the right board and specification.
  2. Spot the heavy weeks. The week of 7 June is a packed one: Biology, Economics, Physics, Business, Psychology, Maths, Chemistry and Sociology all have papers that week.
  3. Use the gap. AQA, OCR, Pearson and WJEC/Eduqas have no exams between Friday 28 May and Monday 7 June, which gives you a full week to reset before the second half.
  4. Count back from coursework deadlines. AQA asks schools to submit most coursework marks, including the Extended Project, by 15 May 2027, so your teacher's own deadline is likely to be earlier. Our EPQ guide explains how the project works.
